Single line diagram using ETAP Software

In this article, we will learn to create basic "single line diagram" on ETAP software and cover necessary block required for this.

Power Grid:

First of all drag "Power Grid" block from the library given in right side of ETAP software. The symbol of power grid block is given in Fig. 1.

Fig. 1

To update the setting of this block double click on power grid block and first of all update "info" setting with id as "UG" (Utility Grid) as given in Fig. 2.

Fig. 2

Now go into "Rating" section of power grid block and update "Rated kV" with value "33" as given in Fig. 3.

Fig. 3

Now go into "Short Circuit" section of power grid block and update "MVAsc" with value "19.5" and "X/R" ratio with value "7" as given in Fig. 4.

Fig. 4

Now click on ok button to close setting window.

Bus

Now drag "bus" block from the library to new project file as shown in Fig. 5.

Fig. 5

Bus will select its voltage rating according to the voltage rating of power grid as shown in Fig. 6.

Fig. 6

2-Winding Transformer

Now drag "2-winding transformer" from library to project file as shown in Fig. 7.

Fig. 7

Now connect this "2-winding transformer" with the bus as shown in Fig. 8.

Fig. 8

Now double click on "2-winding transformer" to open its parameter window as shown in Fig. 9 and go to "Rating" section and update its "prim voltage rating" with the value "33" kV and "Sec voltage rating" with the value "0.415". Also update its "Rated power rating" with the value of "100" MVA and "Altitude Installation" with the value of "1000" m.

Fig. 9

Now go to "Impedance" section of "2-winding transformer" and click on "Typical Z & X/R" to set its typical value as shown in Fig. 10.

Fig. 10

Static Load

As discussed above, again drag "bus" block from library. After this drag "Static Load" from the library to project file as shown in Fig. 11.

Fig. 11

Now double click on static load block to open its parameter window as shown in Fig. 12. Now go to "Loading" section of static load block parameter window and change "kV" rating with value 0.415 and "%PF" with value as 80. Also update "Design" loading with value "90", "Normal" loading with value "70", and "Brake" loading with value "20" as shown in Fig. 12.

Fig. 12

Now click on "OK" button to close parameter window of static load. Final single line diagram is shown in Fig. 13.
