Proposal For Revision in Fellowship of Research Scholar

Research scholars are responsible for up-gradation in existing technology. They are making efforts to improve the performance of existing system so that it can perform effectively, efficiently, and error free. Therefore it is necessary to provide them sufficient facility in the form of fellowship so that they can perform their research in a focused way. Currently, they are getting 25,000 pm for first two years and 28,000 pm for next consecutive three years to do their research work in IISc/IITs/NITs and in other government institutes. Because of this maximum student is moving towards industry for R & D, where they are getting handsome package OR They are moving to another country to do their research work.

Therefore, to promote the research in IISc/IITs, and retain the student in India, government is about to take a bold step by doing another revision in fellowship of research scholar to 70,000 pm. This fellowship will be given to 2000 research scholars. This scholarship revision may be applicable from next academic session. This announcement is made by Mr. Kewal Kumar Sharma, Union Higher Education Secretary at IIT Kharagpur. Partha Pratim Chakrabarti, Director, IIT Kharagpur appreciates this proposal. To make revision in fellowship of research scholar, central government write a proposal last year. In August 2016, The central government made a proposal of 60,000 pm fellowship, while In March 2017, it was upgraded to 75,000 pm. Currently draft has been sent to Finance Ministry.
